Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 491 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 31 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a one-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (October 18) and a total of 194 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 323 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 168 for other traffic offences.  

     Eleven pedestrians and 104 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 2,218 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to September this year, of which 738 pedestrians were involved. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 53.1 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
