Man jailed for attempting to traffic in dangerous drug

     A 54-year-old man was sentenced for a 25-year imprisonment for attempting to traffic in a dangerous drug at the Court of First Instance today (October 18).

     The court heard that in May 2009, officers of Macau Judiciary Police intercepted a 36-year-old Malaysian male who planned to go to Hong Kong from Thailand via Macau and seized about two kilograms of heroin from him.

     Officers of Narcotics Bureau were notified by their Macau counterparts and later mounted an operation to arrest the 54-year-old man, who attempted to collect the heroin, in a hotel in Mong Kok.  

     The 54-year-old man was subsequently charged with attempting to traffic in a dangerous drug. He was convicted of the offence and the sentence was handed down today.
