STH visits NGOs in Yue Wan Estate (with photos)
***********************************************

The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Ms Eva Cheng, today (October 3) visited non-government organisations (NGOs) in Yue Wan Estate.

Her first stop was the Chai Wan District Elderly Community Centre operated by the Hong Kong Society for the Aged at Yue Fung House. Ms Cheng toured centre facilities where meal services are provided to registered elderly citizens. In addition to meal services, the centre also provides community support services and social and recreational activities to elderly members.

Ms Cheng then visited the Salvation Army Family Store at Yue On House. Clothes and household items, both new and second-hand, are sold at discounted prices in the Family Store to generate funding for charity work. The recycling operation also contributes to the community effort on environmental conservation.

Ms Cheng noted that the Housing Authority provides premises for NGOs and welfare agencies at concessionary/nominal rent or by direct allocation so as to facilitate steady provision of care services in public housing estates.
