The Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies will perform Ray Cooney's hilarious play "Caught in the Net" in November, following on from its highly acclaimed adaptation of Cooney's "Funny Money".
Adapted from Cooney's play of the same title, which was nominated for the 2001 London Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Comedy and 2002 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best New Comedy, "Caught in the Net" is translated by Szeto Wai-kin and directed by Henry Fong. The main cast includes leading comedians Cheung Tat-ming and Paper@JuicyNing, as well as Luther Fung, Mandy Yiu, Ko Siu-man, Au Yeung Chuen and Tam Tsz-ling.
"Caught in the Net" is the sequel to Cooney's earlier classic "Run for Your Wife", which enjoyed a record nine-year run in London's West End and went on to further success worldwide.
The hijinks of yesteryear continue in "Caught in the Net", as Cooney's two-timing taxi-driver continues to revel in his dual-shift, double-wife lifestyle, and is still blessed with the round-the-clock help and unwavering support of his die-hard buddy. The difference now is that he has a son and a daughter - by different wives, of course. The teenagers have never met, nor do they know of each other's existence, as they have been raised in separate families. A crisis duly arises however, because now – 16 years later – we have Facebook. Brother and sister have found each other in a "dad with same name" group and are about to meet for the first time. Our polygamous taxi-driver and his buddy rack their brains and pull out all the stops to prevent the siblings' encounter.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Caught in the Net" will be performed in Cantonese at 8pm from November 10-12 (Thursday to Saturday) and at 3pm on November 12 and 13 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Shouson Theatre, Hong Kong Arts Centre. Tickets priced at $180 and $240 are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and the minder, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients. (Limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.) Group booking discounts also available.
