Territory-wide operation to promote public light bus safety

     Police issued 83 fixed penalty tickets to public light bus (PLB) drivers in a territory-wide operation against traffic offences involving PLBs yesterday (September 27).

     The operation included high profile enforcement and deployment of plainclothes officers to observe the driving manner of PLB drivers. Eighty-three fixed penalty tickets were issued to PLB drivers for various traffic offences, including speeding, failing to comply with traffic signs, and picking up or setting down passengers in restricted zone. Another 26 summonses were issued to PLB passengers for not wearing seat-belts.

     Two PLBs were suspected of having structural defects and would be referred to Transport Department for follow up action.

     Police will continue to take various enforcement actions with a view to improving road safety.
