EPD responds to appeal ruling in respect of judicial review on EIA reports for Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

     The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (September 27) gave the following response to the appeal ruling in respect of the judicial review (JR) on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao (HZM) Bridge:

     The EPD welcomes the ruling of the Court of Appeal which allowed the Director of Environmental Protection's appeal in respect of the JR on the EIA reports for the HZM Bridge.

     The purpose of the Environmental Impact Assessment Ordinance is to provide for assessing the impact of designated projects on the environment and to protect the environment. The environmental impact assessment mechanism is stringent, objective and transparent. The EPD scrutinises EIA reports and enforces the assessment requirements under the Ordinance strictly according to the requirements laid down by the Ordinance.

     The EPD will continue to adhere to the law and implement the environmental impact assessment mechanism. It will continue to protect the environment by enforcing environmental protection legislation and related measures as well as putting in place environmental protection policies.
