DanceArt Hong Kong, one of the Community Cultural Arts Ambassadors, will produce the finale performance of its "Ahead of Avant-garde" project featuring workshop participants and professional dancers. The company will showcase the efforts of the workshop participants and dancers after months of training.
The objective of the project is to encourage workshop participants, performers and the audience to take on the idea of the avant-garde, and to break through the boundaries of both trends and the stage. The whole project involves dance experience and performance rehearsal workshops, stage make-up workshops, touring performances, stage costume exhibitions and finale performances.
Established in 1993, DanceArt is committed to two major artistic directions: to encourage collaboration between dance and other art forms and develop multi-media contemporary dance works, and to express concerns about social issues and minority groups through dance arts and develop the social functions of arts. The company has toured different countries to give performances. It was awarded the Hong Kong Dance Award 2003 by the Hong Kong Dance Alliance for addressing social issues through dance with its production of the "A Beautiful Life" series.
The finale performance, with Francis Leung as artistic director and choreographer, will be performed by dancers Leong Heng-un, Helga Fung, Eric Hynch, Gabbie Chan, Emma Wong, Alan Wong and participants of the Contemporary Dance Training and Rehearsal Workshop. Other choreographers will include Cyrus Hui, Gabbie Chan, Helga Fung and Wong Sze-ling.
The finale performance of "Ahead of Avant-garde" by DanceArt Hong Kong, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), will be staged at 4pm and 8pm on October 8 and 9 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Black Box Theatre, Kwai Tsing Theatre. Tickets priced at $40 are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients. (Limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
