Exhibition on HK Youth Cultural and Arts Competitions

     People are invited to view some 300 winning entries of the 36th Hong Kong Youth Cultural and Arts Competitions at an exhibition to be held at the Hong Kong Central Library's Exhibition Gallery from tomorrow (September 27) until this Thursday (September 29).

     The exhibition will be officially opened by the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Raymond Young. The opening hours of the exhibition are: September 27 (2.30pm to 8pm), September 28 (10am to 8pm) and September 29 (10am to 7pm).

     Renowned calligraphists and painters will give impromptu demonstrations at the exhibition on September 27 (4.15pm), September 28 (2.30pm and 5pm) and September 29 (2.30pm and 5pm). Visitors may obtain the artworks as souvenirs.

     Additionally, artists will draw sketches for visitors. Video clips of speech contests, classical Chinese poetry and Putonghua recitation competitions will also be shown at the venue.

     Sponsored by the Home Affairs Department, the Hong Kong Youth Cultural and Arts Competitions have been jointly organised by the Hong Kong Youth Cultural and Arts Competitions Committee and community organisations since 1975. The competitions aim to promote youth interest and understanding in Chinese language, arts and culture, as well as to encourage them to participate in healthy extra-curricular activities.

     This year's competitions attracted over 20,000 entrants in 19 categories including photography, painting, Chinese essay-writing, Chinese story-writing, Chinese calligraphy, slogan and poster design, couplets and Chinese poetry-writing.
