A total of seven Hong Kong movies are screened at the inaugural "Hong Kong Cinema" festival which runs from September 23 to 25 in San Francisco.

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, San Francisco is the presenting sponsor of the "Hong Kong Cinema".  The festival is also part of the celebration of the Office's 25th anniversary.

Hong Kong film directors, Mr Clement Cheng and Mr Alex Law, joined the opening night screening and reception today (September 23, San Francisco time).  Mr Cheng is the co-director of "Merry-Go-Round", the opening-night film.  Mr Law's "Echoes of the Rainbow" is one of the movies to be screened this weekend at the festival at New People Cinema.

Other movies include "All About Love", "City Under Siege", "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", "Mr and Mrs Incredible" and "Punished".

Speaking at the theatre, Ms Wendy Au, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office said that these seven films would showcase the kind of diversity that Hong Kong played in the global cinema.

She said that in addition to the action movies that many enjoyed, Hong Kong also produced avant-garde movies, comedies as well as productions that touched the heart of Hong Kong people, like "Echoes of the Rainbow".

"Echoes of the Rainbow" which picked up many awards was a production supported by the Film Development Fund, set up by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government to provide financial support for small-to-medium budget movie production and finance projects beneficial to the film industry's long term development.

Many guests and movie-goers who attended the opening-night movie also joined the reception.
