Police successfully neutralized a transnational drug trafficking syndicate following the arrest of five men and three women and seized 567 kilograms of suspected cocaine worth about $600 million, the largest single seizure with arrests of its kind in Police record.

Acting on intelligence, officers of the Narcotics Bureau conducted thorough investigations and took action in the afternoon of September 16, intercepting four men and two women, aged between 24 and 40, at Fuk Hang Tsuen in Tuen Mun. About 50 kilograms of suspected cocaine was seized from their possession. Police later searched a warehouse in Fuk Hang Tsuen and, till this morning (September 18), further seized about 467 kilograms of suspected cocaine and some packaging equipment.

A 55-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were also arrested in Yuen Long yesterday (September 17) in suspected connection with the case.

Officers later raided four residential units in Cheung Sha Wan, Kwai Chung and Mong Kok area and seized about 50 kilograms of suspected cocaine in Cheung Sha Wan and $50,000 US Dollars in Mong Kok respectively.

The warehouse is believed to be a drug packaging and storage centre. The total seizure of the drugs could fetch about $600 million if sold in the local retail market.

The four men and two women arrested on September 16 were charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs and will appear in Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts tomorrow morning (September 19) while the other two arrestees had been released on bail and were required to report back to police tomorrow (September 19).
