Police officers issued a total of 407 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 35 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a one-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.
The operation concluded at 7pm today (September 16) and a total of 190 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 284 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 123 for other traffic offences.
Twelve pedestrians and 86 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.
Statistics revealed that a total of 1,978 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to August this year, of which 666 pedestrians were involved. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 53.2 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
