Extension of service of Director of Audit

     The Government announced today (September 16) that the Director of Audit, Mr Benjamin Tang, will continue his service up to June 30, 2012.  

     Mr Tang is a civil servant and will reach the normal retirement age of 60 on December 1, 2011. At the Chief Executive's invitation, Mr Tang will continue his service up to the end of the third-term Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Commenting on Mr Tang's extension of service, the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, said, "Over the last eight years, Mr Tang has made commendable efforts in leading the Audit Commission to provide independent, professional and quality audit services to enhance public sector performance and accountability. Under his continued leadership, the Audit Commission will strive to scale new heights."

     According to the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, the Director of Audit is one of the principal officials who shall be nominated by the Chief Executive for appointment by the Central People's Government (CPG). Mr Tang was appointed to serve as Director of Audit in December 2003 by the CPG for the remainder of the second term of the Government. He was appointed by the CPG in 2007 to serve as Director of Audit for the third term of the Government.
