Update on cluster of Respiratory Syncytial Virus cases in female mentally handicapped ward of Tuen Mun Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding the earlier announcement on some patients at a female mentally handicapped ward being confirmed with Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), the spokesperson of Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) made the following update today (September 16):

     One more 41-year-old patient in the ward presented with upper respiratory infection symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and the test results are pending. The patient concerned is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.

     Admission to and discharge from the ward have been suspended. Restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
