The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, San Francisco (SFETO) celebrated its 25th anniversary at a reception today (September 14, San Francisco time). More than 200 business and trade leaders as well as government officials attended the reception.

In welcoming the guests, the Director of the SFETO, Mr Jeff Leung, said that international trade is a key economic activity for Hong Kong, and the United States is Hong Kong's second largest trading partner. To establish and maintain the trade relationship between Hong Kong and the western United States, he and his team visited many states in the western part of the United States, in addition to receiving top government officials from Hong Kong.

The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Ms Eva Cheng, is among the government officials visiting California this week. While in California, Ms Cheng hosted seminar and luncheons to promote Hong Kong logistics services as well as conduct meetings with key players in the logistics industry and local transport authorities.

As the guest of honour at the reception, Ms Cheng said the Office has played a key role in connecting Hong Kong and the western part of the United States. The Office will continue to help constituencies in the United States learn more about Hong Kong and use Hong Kong as a hub for their business. Hong Kong is a logistics, wine, financial, creative and education hub.

In addition to promoting Hong Kong as a hub for industries, the Office is also involved in promoting Hong Kong movies. As part of the celebration, the Office has partnered with the San Francisco Film Society to present the inaugural "Hong Kong Cinema" later this month.

As the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, said in his congratulatory message, the SFETO will continue to promote Hong Kong's interests and strengthen the city's economic, trade, investment and cultural ties with the United States.
