Chung Yeung Festival special traffic and transport arrangements

     The Transport Department today (September 15) reminded that as large numbers of grave sweepers are expected to go to cemeteries in Tseung Kwan O, Wo Hop Shek and Sandy Ridge during the Chung Yeung Festival, special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in the vicinity of these areas.

Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery

     Road closures for the coming Chung Yeung Festival will be similar to those for last year. Apart from emergency vehicles, the access road leading to the cemetery will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 5.30am to 8pm on October 5 (the day of Chung Yeung Festival).

     General road closure will be implemented from 5.30am to 6pm on September 18, 25, October 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, and 23. All vehicles are prohibited from using the access road leading to the cemetery except KMB special bus route No. 14S, emergency vehicles, hearses, vehicles in funeral processions and with valid entry permits issued by the cemetery. KMB's special bus route No. 14S, running between Lei Yue Mun Road, Yau Tong and Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery, will provide service between 7am and 5.25pm on the dates on which the general road closure is implemented.

Wo Hop Shek, Fanling

     Kiu Tau Road (except hearses), Ming Ying Road (except franchised buses), Wo Ka Lau Road and all access roads within Wo Hop Shek Cemetery will be closed to all vehicles, except emergency vehicles, from 6am to 5pm on September 25, October 1, 2, 5, 8 and 9. The flyover between Kau Lung Hang Village and Tai Wo Service Road West will only be open to taxis, coaches, school buses, green minibuses, private cars, goods vehicles and motorcycles.     

     On September 25, October 1, 2, 5, 8 and 9, special traffic management measures and restrictions on stopping, loading and unloading will be implemented at some road sections in the area. Drivers should pay attention to on-site road signs and the instructions of the police.     

     On October 5 (the day of the Chung Yeung Festival), KMB route No. 76S will operate between MTR Fanling Station and Wo Hop Shek; KMB route No. 70S (To Wah Road, Jordan - Wo Hop Shek) and No. 74S (MTR Lam Tin Station - Wo Hop Shek) will also provide services via Tolo Highway.

Sandy Ridge, Frontier Closed Area

     Except those with Frontier Closed Road Permits, all vehicles will be prohibited from accessing Sandy Ridge between 6am and 6pm during the period from September 17 to October 23.

     Lo Wo Station Road from its junction with Man Kam To Road to a point about 280 metres west of the same junction (near the management office of Sandy Ridge Cemetery) will be closed to all vehicles, except for emergency vehicles and vehicles with Frontier Closed Road Permits, from 6am to 6pm on October 2, 5 and 9.

     Grave sweepers going to Sandy Ridge can take KMB route No. 73K, green minibus route No. 59K or the MTR East Rail Line from Sheung Shui to Lo Wu. KMB route No. 73K service will be strengthened on October 2, 5 and 9 if necessary.
