Testing and certification is one of the six economic areas in which Hong Kong enjoys clear advantages and has potential for further development. The HKCTC was established on September 17, 2009, to advise the Government on the overall strategy to grow the industry. It comprises members from the industry, the business sector and professional organisations as well as the relevant public bodies and government departments. Last year, the HKCTC formulated a three-year market-oriented development plan for the industry, and the Government has accepted all the recommendations made in the Report of the HKCTC. The Government is now working closely with the HKCTC to strengthen the industry and develop new business opportunities in testing and certification services in four selected trades, i.e. Chinese medicine, construction materials, food and jewellery.
