Jointly presented by the Chinese World Cultural Heritage Foundation and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the "Peace and Harmony - The Divine Spectra of China's Fragrant Harbour Exhibition", featuring aloes of sacred scripture and related artefacts, will be held from mid-October. Admission is free and tickets will be distributed from September 14 (Wednesday).
As the most valuable wood species on earth, aloe, also known as agarwood, appeared in the Old Testament and has been used in incense, essential oil, art pieces and ornaments as well as medicine.
This exhibition brings you the story of agarwood, and its relationship to world religion and culture. It is also of special significance to Hong Kong given the city's name, which in Chinese means "Fragrant Harbour". On display at the exhibition are different grades and species of agarwood. Many exhibits also include exquisite carvings, furniture and decoration items, and fragrance resins including frankincense and myrrh, together with essential oils and perfumes and the utensils that go with them.
The "Peace and Harmony - The Divine Spectra of China's Fragrant Harbour Exhibition" will run from October 13 to 29 from 10am to 8pm and on October 30 from 10am to 6pm at the Hong Kong City Hall Low Block Exhibition Hall. Free admission tickets will be distributed at the following venues from September 14 on a first-come, first-served basis:

Saturday: 9am to 1pm

Each person may get a maximum of four tickets and each ticket will admit only one person. Children aged 11 or below with valid tickets have to be accompanied by an adult. There will be two viewing sessions daily, with the first running from 10am to 3pm, and the second from 3pm to 8pm (to 6pm on October 30). Members of the public should choose a viewing session upon collection of tickets. Distributed tickets cannot be exchanged.
The "Peace and Harmony - The Divine Spectra of China's Fragrant Harbour Exhibition", sponsored by A Better Tomorrow, Chinese Literature Foundation, World Cultural Relics Protection Foundation, Champion Technology Group, Kantone Group and DIGITALHONGKONG.COM, is one of the highlights of the World Cultures Festival 2011 - Enchanting Arts of Asia presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
