Choreographers Xing Liang, Justyne Li from Neo Dance HK and Wong Tan-ki from Neo Dance HK, together with the creative team Pulsation, will conduct four dance workshop sessions in October.
Born in Beijing, Xing Liang graduated in classical dance from the Beijing Dance Academy in 1991. He joined Guangdong Modern Dance Company in 1993. Xing has won numerous awards including the Gold Award in the Male Solo Class at the 6th Paris International Dance Competition in 1994; the Gold Award in the Modern Dance Section at the 8th Paris International Dance Competition in 1998; Hong Kong Dance Awards in 1999, 2004 and 2006; the Silver Award in the Modern Dance Section at the 1st Italy International Dance Competition in 2001; and the 2nd Class Award in Choreography at the 5th National Dance Competition. He was also cited as one of the "Top Ten National Performers" in 1996 and was named as the "Star of the Century" by the Guangdong Provincial Government in 1997. His recent major choreography works have included "Stranger Than Fiction", "The Conqueror", "Nijinsky" and "Out of the Box". He is currently the Resident Artist of City Contemporary Dance Company.
Justyne Li graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in ballet and modern dance. Li is a former member of the Hong Kong Ballet and Tanz Graz (Austria), and a soloist with Ballett Bremerhaven (Germany). She is currently working as an independent dancer and choreographer. Her recent choreography has included "5 Solos" and "Toy Story" (Ballett Bremerhaven), "Symphonic Magic" (Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra), "Narcissus and Echo" (Emerging Choreographer Series I - Taking Off), "Angel #666 vs Demon #999" (Hong Kong Dance Festival 2006, IndepenDance) and "Studio Storm". Other recent performances have included "Y/N" (Jumping Frames, Hong Kong Dance Festival 2006, choreographed by Dick Wong), "Spooool" and "Nocturnal Vista" (produced by Theatre du pif), "B. O. B." (choreographed by Dick Wong), "The Story of Island and Boat" (produced by Y-Space), "RJ Diary" (produced by Unlock Dancing Plaza) and "The Rite of Spring" (choreographed by Natalie Weir).
Wong Tan-ki graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and is currently working as a freelance dancer, choreographer, multimedia designer and teacher. His recent performances have included "Positioning", "Key to Strange Realm", "As Time Goes By", "Symphonic Magic" (Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra) and "Narcissus and Echo" (Emerging Choreographers Series I - Taking Off). His recent choreography has included "Passenger", "Studio Storm", "Angel #666 vs Demon #999" and "Dance Machine" for a showcase of Asian Dancers.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Dance on Parallel Line Series (1): "Pulsation" (conducted in Cantonese) consists of four workshop sessions with different contents. The sessions will be held at 7.30pm on October 3, 10, 24 and 31 (Mondays) at GR3, 8/F Backstage, Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Tickets priced at $50 for each session are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by telephone credit card booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
