Special traffic and transport arrangements for public procession on Sunday

     The Transport Department (TD) today (September 1) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in Eastern District, Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Admiralty and Central from about 10am this Sunday (September 4) to facilitate the holding of a public procession.

     The public procession will start from Moreton Terrace Playground at about 10.30am and take the route along Moreton Terrace, Causeway Road westbound, Irving Street westbound, Pennington Street northbound, Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound, Queen's Road Central westbound and Battery Path with the destination at the Central Government Offices.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

Road closure
------------

Phase I:

     The following roads will be closed from about 10am onwards:

1. Moreton Terrace;
2. Shelter Street;
3. Slip road leading from Yee Wo Street eastbound onto Causeway Road westbound;
4. Jardine's Bazaar;
5. Tang Lung Street; and
6. The section of Canal Road East between Hennessy Road and Russell Street.

Phase II:

     The following roads will be closed from about 10.30am onwards:

1. Irving Street (except vehicles heading for Regal Hong Kong Hotel);
2. The section of Yee Wo Street westbound between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road;
3. The section of Yun Ping Road between Kai Chiu Road and Pak Sha Road;
4. Kai Chiu Road;
5. The section of Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road;
6. The section of Hennessy Road westbound between Yee Wo Street and Lee Garden Road; and
7. The slow lanes of Hennessy Road westbound west of Lee Garden Road, Queensway westbound and Queen's Road Central westbound (on the east of Ice House Street) will be intermittently closed.

Public transport services
-------------------------

1. A total of 39 bus routes and three green minibus routes operating in the affected areas will be temporarily diverted.  All bus stops along the procession route will be suspended.  Public transport operators will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

2. The green minibus stand at Tang Lung Street will be temporarily suspended.

Closure of carparks
--------------------

     All carparks along Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound, Queen's Road Central westbound (on the east of Ice House Street) may be closed at short notice if necessary.

     Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services as far as possible.  Motorists should avoid driving to the affected areas.  In case of traffic congestion, they are urged to exercise tolerance and patience, and take heed of directions of the Police in the affected areas.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures as and when necessary.  Motorists and the public should watch out for the latest traffic news on radio and television.
