The Hong Kong Museum of History has produced a publication entitled "Road to China's 1911 Revolution" to commemorate the centenary of China's 1911 Revolution. Featuring more than 400 images, including more than 300 historical photographs and about 100 copies of woodblock prints, pictorial newspapers and other invaluable artefacts collected from Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas, the publication is a collectable item for those who want to learn more about the 1911 Revolution and its part in China's revitalisation.
This year marks the centenary of the 1911 Revolution. To help the public gain a better understanding of the significance of this event in China's modern history, the Hong Kong Museum of History staged, between March 2 and May 16, the "Centenary of China's 1911 Revolution" exhibition, which featured invaluable artefacts, historical pictures, videos and maps provided by different cultural organisations. The exhibition was well received and attracted more than 142,000 visitors.
The "Road to China's 1911 Revolution" catalogue was produced to review the invaluable artefacts and historical photographs as well as the woodblock prints and pictorial newspapers shown in the exhibition, and serves as historical research material on the development of the Revolution. One of the highlights in this fully illustrated catalogue is a map, "The Situation in the Far East", drawn by Hong Kong revolutionary and co-founder of the South China Morning Post Tse Tsan-tai, who vividly depicted a country divided among foreign powers in the early 20th century. The publication offers a comprehensive account of the relationship between Hong Kong and the 1911 Revolution, the campaigns of the reformist and revolutionary camps to save China, the Late Qing Reform in the last decade of the Qing dynasty and the major incidents that occurred between the Wuchang Uprising and the founding of the Republic of China, bearing testimony to the sacrifices made by people from all walks of life and their efforts both before and after the 1911 Revolution to make China a strong nation.
With 176 pages and priced at $80, the catalogue is now available at the Gift Shop of the Hong Kong Museum of History.
The Hong Kong Museum of History is located at 100 Chatham Road South, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. It opens from 10am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 7pm on Sundays and public holidays. It is closed on Tuesdays (except public holidays).
