Stage 1 Community Engagement launched for Planning Study on Future Land Use of Anderson Road Quarry
************************************************************

The Planning Department (PlanD) today (August 30) launched the Stage 1 Community Engagement for the Planning Study on Future Land Use of Anderson Road Quarry - Feasibility Study.

The 18-month study was commenced in January this year mainly to examine the future land use and the potential of the Anderson Road Quarry for residential and other uses and the possible impacts of the proposed developments on surrounding areas.

"Our vision is to reshape the Anderson Road Quarry Site into a green and liveable community that meets the territorial, district and local needs," a spokesman for PlanD said.

The Anderson Road Quarry is located on the south-western slope of the Tai Sheung Tok Hill in Kowloon East. It covers an area of about 86 hectares, in which a platform of about 40 hectares will be formed under the Quarry Rehabilitation Contract managed by the Civil Engineering and Development Department. The works will be completed in mid-2016.

The Stage 1 Community Engagement, which will last for three months until the end of November 2011, seeks views from the public on the future land use planning and design of the study site, particularly the initial land use options proposed. Taking into account the public views collected, a preferred option will be formulated to form the basis for preparation of the preliminary outline development plan for the Stage 2 Community Engagement.

Briefing sessions will be arranged for various stakeholders including the Kwun Tong and Sai Kung District Councils, Area Committees, the Town Planning Board and relevant professional institutes. A public forum is scheduled for mid-October. Roving exhibitions displaying the study background, initial land use options and other relevant information will be held at different locations in Kwun Tong and Sai Kung. Relevant information on the study will soon be uploaded to PlanD's website at www.pland.gov.hk.
