Payment arrangement for Scheme $6,000

     The Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau reminded the public today (August 29) that eligible persons who registered for Scheme $6,000 through banks will receive payment directly through their specified bank account in around 10 weeks after registration, whereas those who registered through Hongkong Post will be notified by post to collect their cheque in around 12 weeks.

     Registration for Scheme $6,000 launched yesterday (August 28) for holders of a valid Hong Kong permanent identity card born in 1946 or before. Registration was conducted in an orderly manner and the operation was smooth. Over 1,100 branches of the 21 retail banks participating in the Scheme and 126 post offices advanced their opening hours in response to demand yesterday and today to facilitate registration by members of the public. Their normal opening hours will resume tomorrow (August 30).

     On the first day of registration, about 303,000 registration forms were collected through drop boxes at bank branches, and about 19,000 were collected at post offices. Another 5,900 registrations were submitted via the e-banking platforms of banks.

     People who have registered through banks and are confirmed to be eligible will receive payment directly through their specified bank account in around 10 weeks after registration. Unsuccessful registrants will receive written notification. Some banks will also confirm the completion of registration by SMS. Registrants who wish to make an enquiry about their registration after submission may call their bank specified for receiving payment.

     Eligible persons who have registered through Hongkong Post and are confirmed to be eligible will be notified by post to collect their cheque at the post office selected in around 12 weeks after registration. The cheque can be encashed at any local branch of the Standard Chartered Bank. Registrants must collect and encash the cheque in person, and must show their identity card for verification of identity. Unsuccessful registrants will receive written notification.
