*************************************************

The Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau announced today (August 20) that members of the public can now download registration forms from the website of Scheme $6,000 (www.scheme6000.gov.hk).

Starting from August 22 (Monday), persons who register through banks can get the registration forms from over 1,100 branches of the 21 retail banks participating in the Scheme or download them from the banks' websites. Those who register through Hongkong Post can obtain the forms from 126 post offices. Forms will also be available from public enquiry service centres of district offices, district social welfare offices of the Social Welfare Department, public housing estate offices and the Housing Authority's customer service centre.

Scheme $6,000 will launch on August 28. Persons aged 18 or above who hold a Hong Kong permanent identity card on that day may register for the sum of $6,000 through banks or Hongkong Post in batches according to their year of birth.

A spokesman for the Bureau said the registration process will be simple and convenient. Whether people register through banks or Hongkong Post, there is no need to queue up for obtaining or submitting the forms in person.

He reminded the public, especially the elderly, that they may ask someone they trust to submit the form for them, or mail it to Hong Kong General Post Office Box No. 186000.

Members of the public are reminded to safeguard their personal data and guard against scams for obtaining personal data or money by deceit in the guise of Scheme $6,000.

They may visit the website of Scheme $6,000 (www.scheme6000.gov.hk) for more information. For enquiries, please call 186000.
