The nomination period for the 2011 District Council election will run from September 15 to 28.
In the polls on November 6, a total of 412 elected members, one for each of the 412 constituencies in the 18 Districts, will be returned.
"A nominee must be a registered geographical constituency elector aged 21 or above who has ordinarily resided in Hong Kong for the three years immediately preceding his or her nomination," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) said today (August 19).
"A nomination form must be subscribed by 10 registered electors of the constituency concerned. Each elector may subscribe only one nomination. Details on the eligibility for nomination as a candidate are set out in section 20 of the District Councils Ordinance," he said.
The completed nomination form and an election deposit of $3,000 must be submitted by the nominee in person to the respective Returning Officer within the nomination period. Nominations are accepted between 9am and 5pm from Mondays to Fridays and between 9am and noon on Saturdays.
The District Officers in the 18 Districts have been appointed as Returning Officers for the election in their respective districts.
Nomination forms are available at the District Offices and the REO Office at 10/F, Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai. They can also be downloaded from the REO website (www.reo.gov.hk).
"Nominees are advised to submit their nominations as early as possible so that they will have time to rectify any mistakes in the forms before the close of nomination," the spokesman said.
Notices of the election and the appointment of Returning Officers, with their office addresses, were published in the Gazette today.
