Digital audio broadcasting exhibition at Computer and Communications Festival
******************************************************

To promote digital audio broadcasting (DAB) services, the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau (CEDB) and four DAB operators will jointly set up exhibition booths at the Hong Kong Computer and Communications Festival 2011 - In the New Era of Digital Audio Broadcasting starting from tomorrow (August 19) for four consecutive days.

At the CEDB booth, visitors can learn more about the development of DAB in Hong Kong, the benefits of DAB, how to receive it and tips for purchasing a digital radio. They can also get a better understanding of DAB services in a relaxed manner through playing games.

Digital Broadcasting Corporation Hong Kong Limited (DBC), Metro Broadcast Corporation Limited (Metro), Phoenix U Radio Limited (Phoenix U) and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) will each have their own booths and activities to introduce their DAB services and programme features.

Compared to analogue radio service, DAB provides better sound quality, more stable reception and a greater diversity of programmes. It also supports the transmission of digital images (ancillary visual service) to the screens of DAB receivers. With suitable digital radios, listeners will be able to view information such as news, weather and traffic information, photos of singers and information of songs.

The four operators will provide round-the-clock DAB services on a total of 18 channels (three each for Metro and Phoenix U, seven for DBC and five for RTHK), offering a wide variety of programme choices, e.g. music, lifestyle, current affairs, finance, community and art and culture. Formal services are expected to be launched by the end of this year. More details are available at the dedicated website (www.digitalradio.gov.hk).

The Computer and Communications Festival is organised by the Chamber of Hong Kong Computer Industry. It will be held from August 19 to 22 at Hall 1 of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Further details are available at www.hkccfexpo.com. The DAB exhibition is located at booth E01. Members of the public are welcome to visit the exhibition.
