HK Oratorio Society to showcase the charm of the Mendelssohns
*************************************************

The concert from the Hong Kong Oratorio Society (HKOS), "Mendelssohn & Mendelssohn: Fanny & Felix", presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will be staged in September.

The programme comprises works by the Mendelssohns: Fanny Mendelssohn's oratorio on "Scenes from the Bible" and selections from Felix Mendelssohn's "Elijah". Under the baton of conductor Professor Chan Wing-wah and guest conductor Professor Gabriel Leung, the orchestra will perform with the Hong Kong Strings, the award-winning SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School Choir, sopranos Rao Lan and Catherine Pun, contralto Ruth Lau and tenor Sam Kan, as well as baritone Petrus Cheung.

The HKOS was founded in 1956, taking its name from its favourite genre of repertoire, the oratorio, which refers to extended choral works with religious or mythological stories. The present Music Director, Professor Chan, took the baton after several successful collaborations with the HKOS in 1995. He has been leading this choir to perform oratorios at regular seasonal concerts and occasional concert tours. Several of these shows were Hong Kong premieres. The choir has performed under the baton of many famous conductors and with various professional orchestras. It has also gone on concert tours overseas and travelled to major cities in Mainland China.

The concert by the Hong Kong Oratorio Society, "Mendelssohn & Mendelssohn: Fanny & Felix", will be staged at 8pm on September 17 (Saturday) at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall.
