The Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, together with its Music Director Dr Yip Wai-hong, principal guest conductor Jimmy Chiang, violin soloist Agnes Tse and soprano soloist Anna Baxter, will perform two "Tribute to Youth" concerts next month.
In the first half of each concert, Tse will play Tchaikovsky's "Violin Concerto in D" with the orchestra, and in the second half Yip's latest orchestral work, "Overture for the 'Youth'", will receive its world premiere. That will be followed by Baxter singing four opera arias - "Wie nahte mir der Schlummer...... Leise, leise" from the opera "Der Freischˆ¢tz", "Donde lieta usci" from the opera "La Bohˆome", Tatiana's letter scene from the opera "Eugene Onegin" and "Czardas" from the opera "Die Fledermaus" - with the orchestra's accompaniment. These two concerts will provide evenings of wonderful music for audiences.
Violin soloist Tse is a 14-year-old Secondary Four student at St Mary's Canossian College. She started playing violin when she was 4 and a half years old. At only the age of 12, she obtained the Fellowship Diploma (FTCL) in Music Recital from Trinity College. Despite her young age, Tse has won numerous awards, including Champion of the Strings Open Class in the Young Musician of the Year 2010, giving her the chance to perform with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Tse has been a member of the Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra since she was 9 and is now the Concertmistress of the orchestra. She has also performed as violin soloist with the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra.
Soprano soloist Baxter graduated from Baylor University with a Master's Degree of Music in vocal performance. Further studies continued privately with internationally acclaimed artists Olivera Miljakovic and Wicus Slabbert in Vienna. Baxter was a prize winner at the 2007 International Singing Competition of Passau. Her previous performances have included appearances with the Forth Worth Opera and the Tulsa Opera in the United States. She has appeared regularly as a guest soloist at Theater Lˆ¢beck and Theater Freiburg in Germany as well as Stadttheater Bern in Switzerland since the 2008-09 season.
The Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra is a highly organised orchestra that aims to promote music among the general public, especially among the young generation in Hong Kong. A number of internationally famous conductors and soloists have been invited to perform with it. By using the idioms of popular music and organising concert talks, the orchestra has successfully introduced serious music and Chinese orchestral music to the public, and at the same time has brought about an awareness of the indigenous culture of the people.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Tribute to Youth" by the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will be staged at 8pm on September 24 (Saturday) at the Auditorium, Tuen Mun Town Hall, and at 8pm on September 30 (Friday) at the Auditorium, Sha Tin Town Hall. Tickets priced from $80 to $160 are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
