Update on cluster of Human Metapneumovirus cases in long-stay ward of Castle Peak Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding the announcement yesterday on a female long-stay ward in which some patients had been confirmed with Human Metapneumovirus, the spokesperson of Castle Peak Hospital made the following update today (August 11):

     One more 70-year-old female patient and one more staff member in the ward presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and the test results were positive for Human Metapneumovirus. The patient concerned has been transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment under isolation and is in stable condition. The staff member is on sick leave.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
