The Boundless Multi-media Series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and featuring three distinguished programmes, comprising a local production and works from Chile and the UK, will be staged in September.
Firstly, "A Performative Communication - Blending Worlds" by Primary Shapes and DJ Tommy, a musical collaboration between legendary local indie duo Primary Shapes and renowned scratchmaster DJ Tommy, will be staged. The local talents will team up with acclaimed designers, including Ewing Chan, Mak Chi-wing, Ma Lap-yin, Allen Fung and more, to create a stunning aural-visual experience and tell a story of how the mysterious codes embedded in crop circles connect to the artists' reflections on diverse issues - intrinsic conflicts of the mind, confrontation between reality and dreams, and problems with language in communication.
The second work comes from Compañia Teatrocinema from Chile. The troupe is made up of a conglomeration of artists from diverse disciplines who have come together in a shared quest for beauty and poetry, literature, image and music. The group fuses the languages and techniques of theatre arts and cinema into an indivisible entity, creating the illusion of travelling through time and space, and generating vertiginous stories that virtually escape the four concrete walls of a theatre. This time, they will bring their production "Without Blood" to Hong Kong audiences. In it, a girl survives a massacre and decades later matures into a ruthless avenger. When the girl meets her revenge target, their conversation opens the floodgates for a torrent of unspoken histories and motivations. For the two lost souls, wrecked in the dark ocean of violence and spilled blood, things finally begin to make sense.
Third in the series is "A One-Man Performance - Fragile" by Peter Suart from the UK. This is a story of the Hong Kong plague of 1894 and its wider implications presented in letters, photographs, poetry, music and theatre. The result is grim, eerie and comic. This is the fifth production in Suart's "Eternity Cabaret" series, started in Hong Kong in the 1990s. Resident in the UK since 1999, Suart was raised in Hong Kong and has spent half of his life here. He co-founded the Box, a theatrical music ensemble, with Kung Chi-shing in Hong Kong in 1987, and the group has presented numerous works including "Lockheadjig", "Beauty and the Beast" and "Bludbeard".
