AO, EOII, ALOII and ATOII applicants reminded to apply for Common Recruitment Examination and Basic Law Test
***********************************************************

The Government announced today (August 4) that the next round of recruitment exercises for the posts of Administrative Officer (AO), Executive Officer II (EOII), Assistant Labour Officer II (ALOII) and Assistant Trade Officer II (ATOII) will be conducted in September.

Applicants for the posts will need to have obtained Level 2 in the two language papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English) (or equivalent results) and a Pass in the Aptitude Test paper in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) as part of the entry requirements for the posts. In addition, the Basic Law Test (BLT) result will, as in previous practice, constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate's overall assessment. However, the BLT result will not affect a candidate's eligibility for applying for any of the above posts.

The CRE and BLT will be held in Hong Kong on October 8 and 15. The application period for this local examination will begin on August 5 and end at 5pm on August 18 (Hong Kong time).

For the convenience of those studying or residing outside Hong Kong, the CRE and BLT will also be held on December 10 in Beijing and six overseas cities, namely London, San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Vancouver and Sydney. The application period for the non-local examination will begin on September 12 and end at 5pm on September 26 (Hong Kong time).

Applicants who wish to apply for the AO, EOII, ALOII and ATOII posts in the 2011-12 recruitment exercise but do not possess the requisite CRE results, as well as those who wish to sit for the BLT, must file a separate application to take the relevant CRE and/or BLT paper(s) during the relevant application period. Applicants for the AO, EOII, ALOII and ATOII posts will not automatically be given places at the upcoming CRE and BLT. Moreover, applicants may apply to take the examination in either Hong Kong or any one of the above seven cities outside Hong Kong (i.e. Beijing and six overseas cities), but not both.

Details relating to the CRE and BLT and an on-line application system will be made available on the website of the Civil Service Bureau (www.csb.gov.hk/eng/cre.html) during the said application periods, while details of the 2011-12 AO, EOII, ALOII and ATOII recruitment exercise will be separately announced in September.
