Licence of fresh provision shop cancelled for sale of prohibited food
******************************************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) has cancelled the licence of a fresh provision shop in Kwai Chung for breaching the Food Business Regulation, as the operator illegally possessed for sale mutton that was not slaughtered in a Government slaughterhouse or in a slaughterhouse approved by the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene. Neither was the meat lawfully imported into Hong Kong in accordance with the Imported Game, Meat and Poultry Regulations.

The fresh provision shop, located at Shopstall No. 61 on the ground floor of Shek Lei Shopping Centre in Shek Lei (I) Estate, had its licence cancelled today (August 1) and must close down its business with immediate effect.

"In June this year, a conviction on the breach was recorded against the operator of the fresh provision shop and a fine of $3,000 was levied by the court," a spokesman for the FEHD said.

"The contravention also resulted in the cancellation of the fresh provision shop licence," he added.

The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the Food Business Regulation and strictly abide by other related regulations, or their licences could be cancelled.
