Innovative performers break sound barriers
******************************************

Truly talented performers find ways to go beyond the limits of traditional instruments to turn everyday items into novel sound generators.

Multi-talented Canadian Michel Lauzière is not only a musician, but also an innovative inventor with a special flair for developing ingenious instruments. He introduced his latest contraption - the "dishophone", made of water pistols, pots and plates - to news.gov.hk.

Australia's Spaghetti Western Orchestra's fantastic interpretation of familiar soundtracks takes the audience back to the cinematic Wild West of the 1960s. The five orchestra members use more than 100 instruments in their performance - from traditional saxophones and bassoons to everyday household objects such as coat hangers, rubber gloves and even cornflakes.

Michel Lauzière and Australia's Spaghetti Western Orchestra are highlights of the International Arts Carnival, on now.

The story appeared in text and video versions on the news.gov.hk website today (July 30).
