Transcript of Director of Administration's remarks at media session
************************************************************

Following is a transcript (English portion) of the remarks by the Director of Administration, Miss Jennifer Mak, at a media session after attending the meeting of the Legislative Council Commission this evening (July 29):

Reporter: Can the Government give us the undertaking that the Legislative Council Building will be ready in time for the next session?

Director of Administration: It has always been our objective to enable the Legislative Council to be able to move into the new premises for the next session, and that is still our objective. In particular, members have raised concern to ensure that the facilities relating to the conference rooms have to be ready in time for the next session - otherwise they would not be able to hold meetings. And that is what we have been doing, working closely with the contractor and also with the Legislative Council Secretariat. From the progress we have seen, which has been significant progress, in terms of handing over these conference rooms, it should be completed, by the latest, on 10th August. We have also commitment from the contractor that this is the date which they would be able to deliver. At the same time, the Architectural Services Department's colleagues are monitoring very closely the development. In that sense, we are confident that no problems will arise in handing over these facilities by 10th August.
