Online interactive drama launched to spread anti-drug message
******************************************************

To make good use of the Internet to spread the anti-drug message among young people, the Narcotics Division (ND) of the Security Bureau and the Action Committee Against Narcotics (ACAN) have partnered with Yahoo! Hong Kong to produce an interactive online drama series on staying in control of your life and keeping away from drugs.

The six-episode interactive drama series, which was launched today (July 27), is one of the core projects organised by the ND and the ACAN this year. New episodes of the drama will be uploaded to the dedicated website and the YouTube social media network every two weeks. The story is about how a secondary school student, with the assistance of a "secret guy", helps in the arrest of a drug pusher in the school basketball team.

To encourage more young people to participate in the anti-drug activity, the organisers have recruited some 50 youngsters online to participate in production of the drama series. Various interactive sessions have also been introduced to add fun to the story. In addition, netizens can play quiz games to win prizes. Actors from the drama series have also set up a fan page on Facebook to exchange views with viewers about the drama.

Apart from being broadcast on the Internet, the drama series will be distributed on DVD to secondary schools and non-governmental organisations to further spread the anti-drug message. Sharing sessions will be held at secondary schools in which actors from the drama series, social workers and rehabilitated former drug abusers will share their knowledge about the harm caused by drug abuse. The rehabilitated former drug abusers will also talk about their experiences in kicking the habit.

In addition to targeting young people, the activity website also contains a parents' zone providing drug-related information and describing skills for identifying children's drug abuse problems to enhance parents' knowledge about drugs and their understanding of the important role parents play in drug prevention. The Medical Volunteer Team of North District Hospital will answer drug-related questions.

The website also includes a virtual tour of local drug treatment and rehabilitation centres. The feature aims to enhance the public's understanding of the facilities and enlist their support for treatment and rehabilitation services.
