LegCo Panel on Manpower continues its duty visit to Korea (with photos)

     The Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Manpower continued its duty visit in Korea today (July 26) to study the implementation of standard working hours. The delegation began its duty visit yesterday (July 25) by visiting the Ministry of Employment and Labour (MOEL) and the Environment and Labour Committee of the National Assembly.

     On its first day of visit in Seoul, the delegation first met with government officials of the MOEL, including Mr Shim Kyung-woo and Mr Kweon Tae-seung, to understand the Korean government policy on standard working hours, monitoring of its implementation, impacts on the labour market and the business environment, and the measures adopted by the government to address issues or problems arising from the implementation.

     MOEL is the government agency responsible for labour standards, adjustment of industrial relations, guidance for trade unions, occupational safety and health, employee welfare, employment policies, equal employment, employment insurance, vocational skills training, industrial accident compensation insurance and other labour affairs.

     In the afternoon, the delegation met with the Environment and Labour Committee of the National Assembly, including Hon Kim Sung-soon and Hon Lee Mi-kyung, Chairman and member of the Committee, to better understand the difficulties encountered in the enactment of legislation on standard working hours.¡@The Environment and Labour Committee is responsible for examining bills and petitions on environmental and labour issues.

     The delegation will visit the Korea Labour Foundation, Korea Labour Institute and Federation of Korean Trade Unions today so as to study the implementation of standard working hours in Korea.
