*******************************************************

A group of 25 senior executives from small and medium-sized companies in western Japan will join a six-day visit to Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shenzhen starting tomorrow (July 24) to learn more about the latest developments in these cities.

The group is jointly led by the Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative (Tokyo), Mrs Jennie Chok, and the President of the Japan Foreign Traders Association, Mr Noritada Ito.

The "Hong Kong Advantage" observation tour aims to enable the participants to get a good overall understanding of the market environment and fundamental strengths of Hong Kong that inspire international investors' confidence, and the opportunities that the city offers as a destination for trade and investment and as a business gateway to and from China.

During their stay in Hong Kong, the group will be briefed by Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council on trade and investment, and by the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau on co-operation between the Mainland and Hong Kong under the guiding principle of "One Country, Two Systems".

They will also visit Hong Kong Science Park, InnoCentre, the Hong Kong Design Centre, the Hong Kong Productivity Council and Cyberport to see the latest local developments in innovation and technology as well as in the design and creative industries.

In Guangzhou and Shenzhen, the participants will attend briefings organised by the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangdong Province and the Shenzhen Science, Industrial, Trade and Information Technology Commission.

They will also tour the Guangzhou Development District and the Shenzhen High-Tech Industrial Park, as well as visit Japanese- and Hong Kong-invested enterprises.

The group will return to Japan on July 29.

The visit has been organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo), and is supported by the Kansai Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; Invest Hong Kong; the Hong Kong Trade Development Council; and the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
