"City under the Blue Sky - A Collection of Hong Kong Aerial Photos" on sale (with photo)
************************************************************

"City under the Blue Sky - A Collection of Hong Kong Aerial Photos" produced by the Survey and Mapping Office (SMO) of the Lands Department is now on sale.

The SMO has been taking aerial photos of Hong Kong at regular intervals since 1968. With more than 10,000 photos collected each year, this valuable historical archive bears testimony to the development of the territory.

The aerial photos are used not only for producing topographic maps, but also serve as documentary records for monitoring works progress and land administration. These photos are also useful in making evaluations and projections for town planning and ecological conservation.

The SMO has published its collection of aerial photos in commemoration of the centenary of the first powered flight in Hong Kong.

The publication contains selected aerial photos taken from an oblique angle recently in Hong Kong to allow readers a seldom seen perspective on the latest land features and developments in the territory.

The 112-page "City under the Blue Sky - A Collection of Hong Kong Aerial Photos", bound in a case, is priced at HK$105. It is available for sale at all SMO sales outlets, six post offices (General Post Office, Kowloon Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, Kwun Tong and Tuen Mun Central), certain local bookstores and the Online Government Bookstore (www.bookstore.gov.hk). Information on SMO sales outlets are available at www.landsd.gov.hk/mapping/en/pro&ser/outlet.htm .
