Invest Hong Kong assists Hunan enterprises to "Go Global" (with photo)

     Invest Hong Kong today (July 19) hosted a seminar in Changsha to encourage local enterprises in Hunan to "Go Global" and enhance their branding and corporate governance efforts by leveraging on Hong Kong's business advantage and capital-raising platform.

     Titled "Hong Kong - Your Platform to Go Global", the seminar was jointly hosted by Invest Hong Kong and Trade Office of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Co-organisers of the seminar included the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province, Financial Affairs Office of Hunan Provincial People's Government, State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Hunan Provincial People's Government, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Hunan Sub-Council, Hunan Federation of Industry and Commerce, Hunan Sunshine Group, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Chengdu of the HKSAR Government. The Department of Outward Investment and Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China was the supporting organisation to the seminar. Vice Director-General of the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province, Mr Deng Lijia; Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Miss Victoria Tang; and the Director of Trade Office of Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Ms Zhao Lei, delivered welcome speeches at the seminar.

     Miss Tang said, "Hunan enjoys a remarkable growth in general capacity with its industrialisation speeding up and the proportion of high-tech output escalating. The province is competitive in its key machinery, food, pharmaceutical and other sectors. With the implementation of 'Go Global' strategy, Mainland enterprises face challenges including capital-raising, network expansion, the acquisition of international best practices and enhancement of their innovation and technology."

     "Hong Kong is a world-class financial, trade and shipping centre and boasts a strong professional service sector. It has Asia's third largest stock market and offers diversified financing channels and products. More than 600 Mainland companies are listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. In seeking to develop their overseas markets, they may also leverage on Hong Kong's advantages in marketing and branding, its international networks, high-tech infrastructure and pool of qualified professionals to further improve their competitiveness."

     Miss Tang also said that Hong Kong's business-friendly environment is also very attractive to Mainland investors with its low and simple tax regime, free flow of goods and information, no exchange controls and a robust regulatory regime. She said that the strong pool of talent in Hong Kong with international perspectives and professional knowledge in the financial, legal and accounting services can provide companies with the support they require to help them build up their international operations.  

     During the seminar, Vice President, Issuer Marketing Department of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, Ms Christine Lie; Changsha Branch Manager of HSBC Bank (China) Company Limited, Ms Gina Jin; and Managing Partner of the Development Principles Group, Mr Wang Qi also gave separate presentations on why to choose Hong Kong for public listing, Hong Kong's financial service sector and how to attract private equity investment. Mr Shen Ke, Secretary to the Board of Directors of Changsha Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science & Technology Development Co Ltd, a Hunan company that has successfully set up in Hong Kong with the assistance of Invest Hong Kong, was also invited to share its experiences as an investor in Hong Kong at the Seminar.
