LCSD responds to Ombudsman's investigation
******************************************

In response to media enquiries regarding the decision of the Ombudsman to investigate the booking and utilisation of sports facilities managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), a spokesman for LCSD today (July 5) said the department welcomed the Ombudsman's direct investigation into the matter.

The spokesman said, "The LCSD provides sports facilities for use by individuals and organisations for recreational purposes, as well as for sports organisations to hold competitions and training for athletes. The demand for the use of sports facilities has always been great and we are striving to strike a balance to meet competing demands. We also review our booking and allocation mechanism from time to time and introduce improvement measures to better the system.

"The department will work closely with the Office of the Ombudsman to assist in the examination of the matter, and we hope that viable and effective measures to further improve the booking and allocation mechanism can be identified."
