************************************************************

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department noted from the Macao authority recently that "EDO Pack Pineapple Pie", produced in Taiwan, was detected with a plasticiser di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP). As the product has been imported to Hong Kong, the CFS instructed the trade to stop sale of the following affected consignment immediately and urged the public to stop consuming for the time being.

Brand name and food name: EDO Pack Pineapple Pie
Importer: EDO Trading Co
Worldwide sole agent: Kiu Fung Hong Ltd
Net weight: 176 grammes
Expiry date: April 6, 2012

A spokesman for the CFS said the Centre had alerted the trade and instructed the importer, EDO Trading Co, and retailers to recall the affected consignment of the product. Sales checks have been conducted by CFS' staff at retail outlets, and samples of the concerned and other related products have been taken for testing.

The importer indicated to the CFS that they had initiated recall of the affected consignment of the product. The CFS will closely monitor the recall arrangements.

Members of the public may call the consumer hotline set up by the importer (tel: 2614 2728) during office hours for enquiries about the product and recall arrangements.

"The CFS will continue to liaise with the Taiwanese authority on the plasticiser contamination incident, closely monitor the situation and take appropriate follow-up actions," the spokesman said.
