Regarding the announcement earlier on a cluster of patients confirmed positive for Parainfluenza Virus Type 3 in a male ward for the mentally handicapped, the spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) made the following update today (July 4):
One more 30-year-old patient in the ward had presented with respiratory infection symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and the test results are pending. The patient concerned is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.
Admission to and discharge from the ward have been suspended. Restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
