Concert staged to celebrate the 14th anniversary of the HKSAR (with photos)

     The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, joined the audience at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium tonight (July 1) to enjoy the symphonic concert. In celebration of the 14th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, the Military Band of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the Hong Kong Police Band for the first time joined hands to give symphonic concert in Hong Kong.

     Other guests included Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Mr Peng Qinghua; the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang; the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing; Generals from the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Mr Li Guoru and Mr Wang Kebin; the Commander of the People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, Mr Zhang Shibo; and the Director of the Leisure and Cultural Services, Mrs Betty Fung, etc.

     "Symphonic Concert in Celebration of the 14th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR" was presented by the Government of the HKSAR, organised by the Home Affairs Bureau, coordinated by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and supported by the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR, the Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison and the Publicity Department of the General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

     More than 400 performers from the Military Band of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, the Hong Kong Police Band, the Military Band of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison and the Hong Kong Association of Choral Societies performed in the concerts. The programme included music pieces such as "Homecoming", "Pearl of the Orient", "Below the Lion Rock", "March of Military Bearing", "Mambo No. 5" and "Soaring Dragon Leaping Tiger" (with percussion solo by Mr Ronald Chin).

     The full-house concert was well received by the audience. To share the joy of the anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, the Military Band of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the Hong Kong Police Band will give an one hour performance at 4pm tomorrow (July 2) at Piazza C, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Admission is free. Members of the public are welcome to join in the fun.
