Get an LCSD Museum Pass to enjoy fabulous offers

     A spokesperson for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) said today (June 30) that its Museum Pass offers holders unlimited admission to the department's seven museums and an array of other privileges. Those who purchase a Museum Annual Pass can also enjoy special privileges offered by major Hong Kong theme parks, namely Ocean Park Hong Kong, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and the Hong Kong Wetland Park.

     The spokesperson said, "We have different types of Museum Pass to cater for the needs of different people. Families can apply for the Museum Annual Family Pass priced at $200 and covering up to four persons with kinship. Individuals can apply for either the Museum Annual Individual Pass at $100 or the Museum Half-year Individual Pass at $50. Meanwhile, full-time students, people with disabilities and senior citizens aged 60 or above can enjoy half-price concessionary offers when applying for the Museum Annual or Half-year Individual Passes.

     "Among the 14 museums managed by the LCSD, there are seven major museums that levy admission fees. The LCSD's Museum Pass allows holders to enjoy unlimited admission during the validity period to these seven major museums, namely the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Hong Kong Museum of History, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, the Hong Kong Science Museum, the Hong Kong Space Museum, the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence and the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum. Museum Pass holders will not be required to pay admission fees for visiting the permanent exhibitions and most of the thematic exhibitions staged in these museums, except for the programmes in the Stanley Ho Space Theatre of the Hong Kong Space Museum and a few special exhibitions.

     "The Museum Pass also entitles holders to an array of related benefits, such as 10 per cent discount on cash purchase of selected items at various museum gift shops and 10 per cent discount on participation in extension activities organised by the LCSD's museums.

     "Furthermore, Museum Annual and Half-year Pass holders can enjoy a 10 per cent discount when purchasing Ocean Park's SmartFun Annual Pass. From July 1 to October 31 this year, the LCSD's Museum Annual Pass holders will also enjoy discounts of $50, $40 and $30 off published prices on the purchase of Adult Magic Access, Child/Student Magic Access and Senior Magic Access respectively for the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort."

     The spokesperson added, "From now till the end of August 2011, the LCSD's Museum Annual Pass holders can get a limited edition bird pin when applying for and renewing a Hong Kong Wetland Park Annual Pass or Half-year Pass."

     The spokesperson encouraged museum visitors to grab this opportunity to purchase a Museum Pass and enjoy the superb museum programmes and the exciting benefit offers. Major exhibitions currently on show at the LCSD's museums include "The Legacy and Creations: Art vs Art and Ink Art vs Ink Art" at the Hong Kong Museum of Art and "The Cultural Relics of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom" at the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence.

     She added that there will also be a number of spectacular exhibitions this year that visitors should not miss. These include "The Flavours of Everyday Life in China ¡V Memories from the Past Half Century", to be opened in early July at the Hong Kong Museum of History; the Hong Kong Heritage Museum's "Made in Britain: Contemporary Art from the British Council Collection 1980 - 2010", which will feature a selection of iconic works of contemporary British art; and "Virtuosity and Innovation: The Masterful Legacy of Lam Kar Sing", which will introduce the life and artistic career of locally renowned Cantonese opera artist Lam Kar-sing. The Hong Kong Museum of Art will meanwhile launch this year a large-scale exhibition to introduce about 100 works of painting and calligraphy by master Pan Tianshou, the Hong Kong Science Museum is organising a fun-filled exhibition on food science and technologies, and the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum will stage the "Dr Sun Yat-sen and Guangzhou in the Post-1911 Revolution Period" exhibition by late September.
