Appointments to Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation

     The Government today (June 30) announced that the Chief Executive has re-appointed Mr Nicholas Brooke as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) for two years starting from July 1, 2011.

     "Mr Brooke has made valuable contributions to steering the development of the corporation, which has now built up a solid foundation," the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, said. "We are confident that under Mr Brooke's leadership, the corporation will continue to help Hong Kong move forward in innovation and technology development."

     The Government also announced the appointment of four new board members and the re-appointment of three incumbent board members by the Financial Secretary with effect from the same date.

     Miss Nisa Leung Wing-yu, Professor Paul Tam Kwong-hang, Ms Winnie Yeung Cheung-wah and Professor Albert Yu Cheung-hoi have been appointed as new members of the HKSTPC for a period of two years from July 1.

     Mr Liu Sing-cheong, Mr Joseph Pang Yuk-wing and Professor Kenneth Young have been re-appointed as board members of the HKSTPC for a period of two years from July 1.

     Mr So said, "We are glad that the corporation has a board of directors in which there is a good mix of expertise to steer effective fulfillment of its public mission. We are confident that these members, with their impressive expertise and knowledge, will help the corporation enhance Hong Kong's position as a regional centre for innovation and technology."

     The terms of two incumbent members, Mrs Alice Chin Hang-yin and Professor Nancy Ip Yuk-yu, will expire on June 30.

     "Mrs Chin and Professor Ip have provided valuable contributions to steering the corporation in pursuing its public mission in the past six years. The achievement of the corporation is due in no small part to their guidance and wise counsel," Mr So said.

     The HKSTPC, which began operation on May 7, 2001, manages the Science Park, three industrial estates and the InnoCentre, and supports innovation and technology development in Hong Kong. It provides a comprehensive range of services to cater for the needs of industry at various stages, from nurturing technology start-ups through the incubation programme, providing premises and services in the Science Park for applied research and development activities, and creating and sustaining a design cluster at the InnoCentre, to providing developed land in the industrial estates for production.

     Together with an official member appointed on an ex-officio basis, the board of directors of the corporation comprises 17 members, including the Chairman. The membership of the full board of directors is as follows:
