Appointment of HKEx Risk Management Committee members

     The Financial Secretary has appointed Professor Chan Ngai-hang and Mr Michael Liu Swee-long, and re-appointed Mr Edmond Lau Ying-pan, as members of the Risk Management Committee (RMC) of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx).  

     The appointment, made under the Securities and Futures Ordinance, is for a term of two years with effect from Friday (July 1).

     "We are confident that with their expertise and experience, Professor Chan, Mr Liu and Mr Lau would be able to give valuable views on the work of the RMC," a Government spokesman said today (June 29).

     "We would also like to thank Professor Chan Ka-lok and Mr Fong Hup for their contribution to the RMC over the past six years."

     The RMC was established in March 2000 with the statutory role of formulating policies on risk management matters relating to the activities of HKEx and its subsidiaries for consideration by the Board of HKEx.

     The RMC is chaired by Ronald Arculli, Chairman of HKEx. The other serving members of the RMC include Mr Mark Seumas McCombe, Mr Michael Lee Tze-hau, Dr Bill Kwok Chi-piu and Mr Keith Lui Kei-kwong.

     Professor Chan is a Professor of Statistics and Chairman of the Statistics Department at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Mr Liu is a partner at Latham & Watkins.
