Cluster of Clostridium Difficile toxin cases at Kowloon Hospital medical extended care male ward

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Kowloon Hospital (KH) made the following announcement today (June 24):

     Five patients (aged 75 to 99) in a medical extended care male ward had presented with diarrhoea symptoms since June 13. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients. Test results of four patients were positive for Clostridium Difficile toxin. The concerned patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

     Admission to and discharge from the ward have been suspended. Restricted visiting to the ward has also been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up measures.
