Netherlands' Introdans Ensemble for Youth to perform "Parken & Nikolais Celebration" (with photos)
************************************************************

This summer, Introdans Ensemble for Youth from the Netherlands will take the audience on a fantastic journey with two modern ballet masterpieces: "Parken" and "Nikolais Celebration".

The humorous "Parken", created by renowned choreographer Mats Ek, involves a prince and princess amid bizarre scenes and a fun-filled, surrealistic park. Well-to-do people in outlandish outfits throw a party, a rowdy family sits down for a hilarious picnic, and an ill-fated pig bumps into a young gang of ruffians. Even Santa Claus can be found trapped in this outlandish place where everything and anything can happen!

This colourful on-stage voyage has earned much acclaim among critics, including the publication "On Stage" which claimed that "Mats Ek's mischievous sense of humour will delight both young and old."

"Nikolais Celebration", comprising works from the repertoire of dance virtuoso Alwin Nikolais, creates an imaginative feast for the senses. Three delectable cakes revolve on stage, seemingly in flamboyant evening dress. Clad in gigantic rubber suits, dancers twist and turn into a multitude of shapes and forms. As a group, they swarm like bees, generating an amazing visual experience using a variety of dance and movement.

Introdans is an internationally acclaimed modern ballet group and one of the three biggest dance companies in the Netherlands. Introdans Ensemble for Youth is an independent department of its renowned mother ensemble, and aims to present a wide repertoire of dance as well as works created specially for children. It is the only company of its kind in Europe actively involved in the education and promotion of ballet amongst youngsters. Introdans Ensemble for Youth's tour choreographers Mats Ek, Jiri Kylian and Alwin Nikolais have contributed many innovative ballet works combining classical elements with modern techniques.

Dance performance "Parken & Nikolais Celebration" is one of the highlights of the large-scale summer festival "International Arts Carnival" (IAC) presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
