Cluster of Clostridium Difficile toxin cases at Kowloon Hospital male rehabilitation ward

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     A spokesperson of Kowloon Hospital (KH) made the following announcement today (June 21):

     Six patients (aged 73 to 87) in a male rehabilitation ward have presented with diarrhea symptoms since June 10. Appropriate viral tests have been arranged for the patients. The test results of six patients were positive to Clostridium Difficile toxin. The patients concerned are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

     Admission to and discharge from the ward has been suspended. Restricted visiting to the ward has also been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
