Cluster of respiratory symptoms cases in male long-stay ward in Castle Peak Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) made the following announcement today (June 21):

     Six patients (aged 49 to 62) and a staff member at a male long-stay ward presented with respiratory symptoms since June 19. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and all test results were negative for influenza A and influenza B. The six patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition. The staff member concerned is on sick leave.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up measures.
