Update on cluster of Rotavirus cases in paediatric infant ward at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital made the following update today (June 20) regarding an earlier announcement on Rotavirus cases in the paediatric infant ward:

     Two female infants (aged 1 month and 2 months respectively) in the paediatric infant ward have presented with diarrhoea symptoms. The test results of the infants concerned were positive for Rotavirus. They are being treated under isolation and are in a stable condition.  

     Admission to the paediatric infant ward concerned has been suspended. Restricted visiting to and discharge from the ward is imposed. Infection control measures of the ward concerned have already been stepped up according to prevailing guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close medical surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
